2022 icon progression
ICON PROGRESSION - 2022
I decided to include my LJ icons in the counting. It's confusing because I don't post by month so I had to doublecheck with my icon folder as to when they were made. I didn't include the icons made for lovebars and panoramas. Some icons hosted in postimg might not show up.
JANUARY - FEBRUARY
I made 4 icons in January-February and they were all for a challenge at iconthat. High saturation to enhance the terracotta/earth colors.

MARCH
I entered 10 icons in a challenge at Land of Art. Continued using textures set to screen for the lighting effects. Began experimenting with cutout+background (Idris Elba icon).

APRIL
I liked how the first icon turned out (cut-out and solid color bg) so I tried to replicate it in the 2nd icon but with a fake background. Negative space my old friend.

MAY
I used screencaps as textures in the first icon. Continued using textures set to screen for the lighting effects. Started to icon animated subjects.

JUNE
Focused on cool colors. I think I hit a dry spell.

JULY
Tried to get into the icon-making spirit by using subjects I know and like (1-5 icons). Recreated the fake background/3d text effect that I saw on some icons made by others (1st icon). I like full body subjects and I was missing Word of Honor (plus the challenge asked for purple). Selective coloring in the Moonlight (4th) icon and Aladdin (5th) icon to differentiate the subject from the background.

AUGUST
Muted effect on the first icon because the screencap was too yellow. Focused on the facial expressions. Making icons with anime colors is hard (either I'm going to lessen the saturation or key it up).

SEPTEMBER
Experimented with soft lighting and matte effect (1st and 2nd icon). Cut-out and fake background (3rd icon).

Went back to making anime icons. Cut-out and fake background (1st icon). Lighting using textures and screencaps set to screen.
